There are a few hamlets in the hills & mountains, but there are very few buildings in the middle of the countryside in isolated positions. The Languedoc-Roussillon region, where the Pyrénées Mountains lead down to the Mediterranean, has started to develop with the building of a few new resorts, but the old villages still reign supreme & the region has not been spoilt.
